No FICO Cutoff

A fuel card that looks at your business, not your FICO score.

Thin file. New to credit in the US. A score a bank flags before it even looks at your authority. None of that has to be the reason you can't fuel. Haul's underwriting checks your FMCSA carrier record and operating history — there's no minimum credit score to clear.

DOT number to start · ITIN, EIN, or SSN accepted

If this sounds familiar

This page exists because these are the applications that get stuck at other fuel cards.

🧾

A fleet card asked for a personal credit pull before it would even quote you a limit.

📅

You're newer to credit in the US — even though you've been driving, and billing freight, for years.

📉

Your file is thin, so the score reads worse than the business actually runs.

🪪

You run under your own authority, and nobody upstream looks past the personal number to see it.

How it actually works

No minimum credit score. Here's what we check instead.

This isn't a promise that credit is never part of the picture — it's that a low or thin FICO score, on its own, doesn't disqualify you the way it does at a traditional fleet card. Underwriting weighs the business you're actually running:

🚛

FMCSA carrier authority

Active operating status, and how long you've held it. Six months of active authority is the typical bar — newer carriers can still apply.

🏦

Banking history

How money actually moves through your business account, not just a score pulled from a bureau.

Fuel spend pattern

What you're already running through the tank tells us more about the business than a three-digit number does.

What this means: no FICO cutoff, no minimum score to clear.

What this doesn't mean: a guarantee, or a claim that credit is never checked. If your authority is newer or your file is thinner, the decision might come back structured differently — a prepay or secured setup instead of an open line — rather than a flat no.

What you need to apply

  • DOT number — the primary identifier for most owner-operators
  • Government-issued ID: passport, driver's licence, or ITIN letter — ITIN, EIN, or SSN all accepted
  • Proof of address — a recent utility bill or lease agreement
  • Active FMCSA operating status (a restored authority if it currently shows INACTIVE)

Applying as a solo driver, an owner-operator, or a small fleet each work a little differently — the owner-operator breakdown walks through what changes for each. Documentation edge cases and the rest of the application questions are answered in full in the FAQ.

Where the difference actually shows up

Approval speed, minimum fleet size, and how the price is disclosed all tend to move together with the credit-check question — cards that gate hard on a personal score often gate hard on fleet size too. The fee schedule breaks down what you pay line by line and lists the fees Haul has published so far. Two of them — the monthly card fee and the per-gallon rate — are still being finalised and are marked as such, so check it before you apply rather than after.

Newer to your authority?

A thin credit file and a brand-new FMCSA authority are different problems, and the underwriting conversation is a little different for each. If it's the authority that's new rather than the credit file, the page built for new-authority carriers walks through what to expect.

Questions about credit and approval

Does Haul run a credit check for the fuel card?

This isn't a promise that credit is never part of the picture. What's different is that there's no minimum FICO score and no credit-score cutoff in underwriting — instead of gating on a personal credit score, the application weighs your FMCSA carrier authority, how long you've been active, and your banking history.

What credit score do I need for a Haul fuel card?

There is no FICO cut-off. Underwriting looks at cash flow and your FMCSA carrier history rather than consumer credit alone.

Can I get approved with bad credit or no credit history?

A low or thin credit file on its own doesn't disqualify you. Most owner-operators only need a DOT number to start the application, and Haul accepts ITIN, EIN, or SSN as identification.

What does Haul actually check if not my FICO score?

Your active FMCSA authority and how long you've held it, how money moves through your business bank account, and your fuel spend pattern. Six months of active authority is the typical bar for an open line — newer carriers can still apply.

I don't have six months of FMCSA authority yet — can I still apply?

Yes. The decision may come back structured differently — a prepay or secured setup instead of an open line — rather than a flat no. If you're brand-new to authority rather than working with a thin credit file, the new-authority page walks through what changes.

How long does approval take?

About five minutes to fill in. An automated check runs against your DOT and FMCSA record on submit, and most decisions come back in minutes. Anything the system can't decide confidently goes to a person — you keep your place in the queue and it costs nothing extra.

What happens right after I'm approved?

The virtual card is usable at the pump the same day you're approved. The physical card ships free and typically arrives in 3–5 business days.

How does this compare to a typical fleet fuel card?

Cards that gate hard on a personal credit score tend to gate hard on fleet size too — minimums of five or more trucks are common industry practice. The full comparison breaks down approval time, fees, and network access line by line.
